Life Moments, The Carter Corner

It’s a powerful thing.

Design and Dessert was my first workshop. It’s something I’d been wanting to do for years, but was held back by fear. I finally decided to take the leap of faith. I paid for everything in advance without know if I would sell one ticket. 😣

Well, it turned out to be amazing. Everyone was full of energy and eager to learn how to tackle their design dilemmas. They asked thought provoking questions and left with everything they needed to complete their design themselves 🙌🏾. We all have a gift, and it’s up to us to figure out how we can use it to help and empower others ❤️.

Oh, and I was two tickets away from selling out. I’m so glad I didn’t let fear win 🌟.

Biophilic Design, Design Inspiration

Hey y’all!
We’ve discussed biophilic interiors often. So, I wonder…
When you hear “bringing nature inside”, what comes to your mind? Is it wood? Blue or green walls? Plants, maybe?

If those were your initial thoughts, you are definitely on the right track. However, I don’t want you to think that’s all there is to bringing elements of nature inside your built environment.

Recently, I was asked how do I feel about biophilic and other sustainable interiors being considered boring. I was taken aback! I never realized that the idea of those interiors seem stale to some, but I definitely understood. Honestly, you should picture trees with green leaves and blue oceans when you think of nature.  Then, when someone (like me) says they are going to bring nature inside your space, you probably think, “Great. Another pale blue room with plants.”

Well, I have great news for you. Biophilic and other sustainable interiors don’t have to be boring. As a matter of fact, using bold colors in my designs is one of my most favorite things! The picture above serves as an excellent example.

Although the space was designed around biophilia, the primary color is red. The way the color is paired with its surroundings is quite stunning, right?

Pablo Picasso once said, “Learn the rules like a pro, so you can break them like an artist.”

This could not be more true when it comes to interior design. There are many rules. As a matter of fact, there are two dimensions of biophilia, six elements and 14 patterns of biophilic design. Since I understand the rules of biophilic design, I can insert my own unique design sense. Now, I’m able to be playful with my interiors while respecting the importance of the rules.

So, from now on, when you hear me say “bringing nature inside” or “biophilic design”, don’t worry. The space will be STUNNING!

Life Moments, The Carter Corner
Last month, we had the pleasure of attending Georgia Breast Cancer Coalition’s Pink Cork event. GBCC is an organization whose mission is to educate legislators and the public on all aspects of breast cancer, advocate for increased breast cancer research funding, and eradicate the disease. Pink Cork is GBCC’s signature fundraising event.

Let me tell you, WE HAD A BLAST! Everything about the event was top notch. The people were pleasant, food was delicious, drinks were on point, atmosphere was amazing and the dance floor was jumping. The best part of the night was watching everyone freely open their wallets to give to such a worthy cause.

GBCC did an outstanding job with the variety of items to bid on. Things like an Los Angeles Lakers hat autographed by Lebron James, a Porsche experience, and trips to Saint Lucia and Africa. My husband and I had our eye on a cleat that had been signed by New Orleans Saints quarterback, Drew Brees (which came with a certificate of authenticity). Our son is the biggest Drew Brees fan, so we thought this would be perfect for him. I think being in Atlanta worked in our favor because WE WON! If you’d like to learn more about GBCC, please follow them on Facebook. Hope to see you there next year!   – Much love, Tiffany
